»THE CONTEST IN BRIEF
Some Fringe performances will showcase a single short film, chosen by a nationally recognized jury. As Fringe is about celebrating what is good, and true and beautiful in art, the films screened should be beautiful and compelling as well. The chosen films from this contest will have high visibility associated with the marketing and production of the events, and will be featured prominently during the performances. All proceeds from ticket sales to Fringe performances will benefit the arts in Atlanta.
»WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
All filmmakers, including animators and those specializing in motion graphics.
»FILM PARAMETERS
Films should be:
| » A powerful/compelling visual, incorporating something musical in the film. The specific musical element or theme is open for interpretation by the filmmaker, as is its use and prominence in the film. As Fringe is about celebrating what is good, and true and beautiful in art, this should be conveyed in the film as well
» Runtime: From eight minutes to 20 minutes
» Completion Date: No requirement for date completed.
» Place of Origin: Projects may originate from anywhere in the world.
» Premiere status: No premiere requirement.
» Distribution Status: Project must not have distribution.
» Films must not have had any commercial theatrical or television play in the U.S. Films may have had non-commercial broadcast on the Internet for a limited time only.
» Films in any language other than English should be subtitled.
» A press kit is requested, but not required.

»SUBMISSION & ENTRY FEE
| » Filmmakers must deliver three copies in final format (DVD Coded Region 0 or 1) for Festival screenings. No exceptions will be permitted.
» Packaging/Labeling – For DVD submissions, the Festival requests standard commercial 5-1/4” x 7-1/2” DVD. For all submissions, include the film title (in English) and the running time on the spine of the DVD packaging and on the DVD itself.
» Shipping: All costs for shipping submission materials to and from Atlanta are the responsibility of the sender. Ship DVDs in a bubble-pack envelope. The Festival is not responsible for damage incurred in shipping to submitted materials.
» International entries: All entries from outside the U.S. should be sent Air Mail Registered or by a parcel or express service (such as UPS or DHL). We cannot accept entries shipped via airfreight if customs and delivery fees have not been paid.
» Receipt of entries: For confirmation of receipt, include a self-addressed stamped postcard with your entry. Fringe will not confirm receipt of submitted materials by telephone or email.
» Return of entries: Unless indicated on the submission form, preview DVDs will not be returned. To have your tapes/DVDs returned, you must include addressed pre-paid envelopes. Submitted press materials will not be returned.
» Entry fee: Filmmakers should include an entry fee of $10 ($5 for students) by check made payable to Fringe Atlanta, Inc. and mailed to the below address along with the screening copies of their films.

You may submit more than one film, but each must be on a separate preview DVD and must be accompanied by its own completed submission form and entry fee.
Entries will be accepted on a rolling bases throughout the year.
Winners will be notified at least two weeks before any performance in which their film will be showcased.

»THE JURY
ELKIN ANTONIOU
Elkin is an artist and a producer. She trained on scholarship with the Joffrey Ballet, and began her professional career dancing as a soloist with Los Angeles Chamber Ballet and LA Classical Ballet and became the youngest member of the LA Company of The Phantom of The Opera. Other theatre and television credits include Fame the Musical, Gypsy (starring Bette Midler), CSI, Chicago Hope, West Wing, Picket Fences, Mendel and Moses, Tales of Hoffman, Silent Victory, and Party of Five.
Elkin’s passion for the theatre is rivaled by her passion for film. In 2003 she co-produced the Academy Award nominated short film, MOST. In 2006 Elkin became the Executive Producer of Chapter 7 Films, a music video/commercial production company. Elkin has partnered with fellow producer Deborah Giarratana to co-found the non-profit organization LA LOVES (www.laloves.org). Today Elkin acts as the creative producer behind multiple projects that all utilize great art and great artists to bring awareness and action to issues of social justice.
MATT HINTON
Matt Hinton is the producer, co-director, and editor of Awake, My Soul: The Story of the Sacred Harp, the first feature documentary about Sacred Harp singing, an early American form of a cappella hymnody which has survived in the rural south. Awake, My Soul is slated to air nationally on public television in Fall 2007. He is a professor of Religion at Morehouse College in Atlanta, and lives in Atlanta’s historic West End with wife (and directing partner) Erica and daughter Anna.
ROBERT DAVIS
Robert Davis is the chief film critic for Paste magazine. His column, “Life Camera Action,” appears regularly in Paste, and his film intake often exceeds the daily allowance recommended by leading scientists. He lives in San Francisco with his wife Lorraine and hosts a podcast about movies at erratamag.com.
