»THE CONTEST IN BRIEF
Each Fringe concert series will showcase a single poster, chosen by an award-winning jury. The winning poster from this competition will have high visibility associated with the marketing and production of these events and will be featured prominently and sold the evening of each performance, a total of four performances for the 2007-2008 season. All proceed from the sale of the posters will benefit the arts in Atlanta.

»WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
For students majoring in graphic design, art direction, illustration or photography.

»DESIGN PARAMETERS
Posters may be created in any medium, including but not limited to photography, illustration, and graphic design and should be:
»An original idea of your own.
»A powerful visual, incorporating something musical in the design. The specific musical element or theme is open for interpretation by the artist, as is its placement and prominence in the artwork. As Fringe is about celebrating what is good, and true, and beautiful in art, this should be conveyed in the poster as well.

»No larger than 11" x 17" portrait
»B&W or Color

JEREMY COWART

Jeremy has been in and around the music-entertainment industry his whole life. Shortly after graduating college with a degree in Graphic Design, Jeremy founded his own design company, Pixelgrazer, and began designing websites and CD packaging for many well-known record labels. Wanting to be a part of the full process, Jeremy eventually began photographing the artists he was designing for. A passion for photography was born and Jeremy is now shooting full-time. His background in design is what drives his perspective in shooting.

Jeremy’s work has appeared in Paste Magazine, Rolling Stone, Relevant Magazine, and in numerous CDs. He has also shot for Fox Television and has published a book of photographs taken in Africa titled Hope in the Dark.

JOHN HENDRIX

John Hendrix, born in St. Louis, has been drawing since shortly after that moment. John graduated from The University of Kansas in 1999 and went on to study at School of Visual Arts in New York City. After graduating in 2003, John worked at The New York Times as Assistant Art Director of the Op-Ed page for several years as well as teaching at Parsons School of Design. John’s work has appeared in numerous publications such as Sports Illustrated, Rolling Stone, The New Yorker, Esquire, The New York Times, and Premiere. He has also designed and illustrated many book jackets for Random House, Harper Collins, Penguin, and St. Martin’s Press.

John’s work has won numerous awards, including the Society of Illustrator’s Silver Medal for Book Illustration in 2006. His drawings have also appeared in the award publications American Illustration, Society of Illustrators, Society of Publication Designers and Communication Arts. In addition to his editorial drawings, John is teaching undergraduate illustration at Washington University in St. Louis, working on several picture books for children, and changing diapers.

JOSE REYES

Since graduating with a degree in Graphic Design from Savannah College of Art and Design in 1995, José cut his teeth at agencies large and small like BBDO, Tausche Martin Lonsdorf, The Hauser Group and The Puckett Group. After years of working “for the man”, he started his own design firm in 2002, Metaleap Design, with the goal of using his talents as a tool for transforming society and culture—all while doing amazing work for an even more amazing client roster. He has done work for clients ranging from Fortune 500’s like Aflac and Delta to non-profits bringing hope to war-torn countries.

Metaleap Design was featured in the 2007 HOW Design Conference studio tours and their work has won many awards and accolades. His collaborations with illustrators and photographers can be seen regularly in Paste Magazine and have appeared numerous times in Communication Arts.
